Michael Is Home.
Soldiers return home to hugs, tears
By Amy Joi O'Donoghue
And she waited.
Soldiers passed her by, carrying roses and jumping into the arms of their wives. One after the other.
She stood motionless, a tear running down her face, her pink flowered dress blowing, and she waited.
Just when it looked like anxiety was going to overcome her, that somehow he wasn't getting off the plane, Camille Davies saw her husband, Michael, and the world became a different, wonderful place.
"I can't believe it," she said. "I'm over the moon I'm so happy."
The long year of deployment for 260 Utah National Guard soldiers and the long year of waiting for the families came to end early Friday morning when the men and women from the 142nd Military Intelligence Battalion returned home. They had been in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
While the war went on "over there," life continued over here for the families, with milestones of happenings both tragic and good.
Michael and Camille Davies' twins, who were 2 weeks old when he left, experienced a lot of snapshot moments of firsts that their daddy missed.
