Every year we go up to the cabin on Mt. Hood that Jeff's family owns with my sister Amy's family and we always have such a great time.
But every year it seems like the universe is trying to tell us not to do it again a little harder.
We all have fond memories of last years rousing game of push the mini van up the snowy drive and the pacifier incident New Years of '04.
But this year takes the cake. Let me give the run down.
#1 smoke filled the house as it always does when trying to start the wood stove. I have to explain this process in detail some other time.
#2 We were unable to find the water main under 4 feet of snow. So no anything that required water for three day such as washing hands, hair, body, dishes, or flushing the toilet. Which brings us to.
#3 The tank on the toilet was not drained the last time someone was at the cabin so when the temperature dropped below freezing and it did it broke right in half. But that's ok because we didn't have any water to flush it anyway.
#4 because of the water situation the men had to go get buckets of water from the river ( in 4 feet of snow) for us to wash hands, dishes and to back flush the toilet with. There was still no bathing.
#5 After getting in the car New Years day to go for our traditional pancake breakfast at the Huckleberry we found ourselves hi centered in the snow with no way to get out. So I was told to walk up to the highway and call a tow truck. When I got to the highway I still was unable to get a cell signal. (Incidentally, there was also no shoulder on the highway) Luckily Jeff was feeling bad for getting so frustrated with the situation and followed me up and he was able to call. After that whole ordeal was over things were good until we were trying to get home.
#6 not only was there an accident right down from the cabin that held us up but highway 26 was closed due to a landslide and we had a 2 hour detour.
But after all of that we still had a great time and are so going to do it again next year with or with out the husbands because spending New Years at the cabin with is one of my most favorite traditions.
